Eric,
I am still having trouble tracing the Borba line in California. I
can't believe with all those kids that they produced only three
children. Perhaps the obits would help me...where do you search
normally for obits?

Theresa, thank you so much for offering to do that for me. Should I still
contact the cemetery to find out where the grave is? Let me know what to do
and I'll give them a call. Thanks again. Gail

Dear Gail,
No need for the cemetery to charge you. There is a website that I take pictures
for of grave sites. It is called
www.findagrave.com. Look up the cemetery or the person's name to see if it has
already been done. If not there is a place to send a request. I have my

Adair,
Most obits I get are from the newspaper collections at Ancestry. With the
large East Bay Portuguese communities, the Oakland Tribune and the Hayward
reviews turn up the most.
You show six grandchildren from Manuel and Jennie on the Borba tree. Were
you talking about another generation?
Dear Listers,
Just to let you know that you have to keep searching everywhere all the time!
Yesterday Celeste Perry and I traveled to the Roman Catholic Archives in
Menlo Park, CA to look at marriage records. I have been searching for my
grandmother's sister Maria Vieira da Silva for years. I
Thanks for the reminder. Maybe there's hope I'll find my grandfather's info
someday.

Hi Rosemarie,
I have been interested in going to the Roman Catholic Archives in Menlo
Park, too. How much info did you have to give them to get your records? I
know my great grandparents were in California in the 1880's and I believe
they had three children while there, at least one of them in
Tish,
The Archives are for the Archdioses (sp??) of San Francisco. I beleive if
your people had a child in Mission San Jose that is where you would need
to search first. BUT, if San Jose and area were in the San Fran diocese
early on, 1880 migh fit, you would just have to tell Mr. Burns at the

I contacted one of the organizers, who sent me the following
information re the conference. Note that João Ventura's workshops
will be on Saturday, March 24 -- although some of the other days'
events might also be of interest to some of you. I'm sure more info
will be forthcoming re lodgings, as

It wasn't the prodding, Rosemarie; It was the positive mind-set.
Remember, I kept telling you to say and think, I have found Maria.
Everytime you said anything negative, I said, You found it. Not, You are
finding it, or you will find it. I tried to keep you in a positive frame of
mind.
Rosemarie,
Thank you very much for the hints. I will follow your lead after the
holidays.
Best wishes,
Tish

Dear Listers,
Our fun group will again assemble for this event. Celeste has again
offered to make purple scarfs for us (for both males and females). For
those of you who attended the group event a couple of years ago, you will
