Thanks Pam Margaret. Typo's happen. I was able to confirm the baptismo

Hi Mike,
Jose Leal da Rosa does not come up in Piedade if you use the da...however, he's
there if you just put in Jose Leal Rosa. He married twice, died at 92.

Greetings Group,
My brother has a strong DNA (E-M35.1) match in Cuba. I'm curious if many
Azorean people went to Cuba? Did whaling ships stop there?
Thanks,

To answer the original question, I have noticed many people over the years who settled in various places in Central America and the Caribbean, including Cuba, who have a connection to the Azores.Maybe the similarity of the language between Portuguese and Spanish was a factor. And who wouldn't like
Mainly in XVIIIth century, women adopted religious surnames. There's no single
rule, but many times these names refered to saint whose date was close to birth
or baptism children's date. Children who was baptized close to Christmas
received do Nascimento; children baptized in June, de Santo
Those are not surnames, Joao, they are the same as Confirmation names except in
the Azores it is referred to as segundo Communiao.

Doug, I'm sure the weather in Mexico is very nice, but the Azores are
beautiful, and I don't think families would pack up and leave just for a
warmer climate. I believe the fact that some of my DNA cousins have
ancestors who lived in Nuevo Leon could be significant. Check out this

My brothers match in Cuba is handled by his daughter and when we emailed it
