I found a Manuel Cardoza listed in the Mt. St. Joseph cemetery records in
Hayward. He died May 22, 1923 and was buried on May 23, 1923. He was 85 years
old. No grave site is listed and no other information is listed in any of the
records I have. You may try to search the newspaper for
Hi Celeste,
Manuel Cardoza did die in Hayward on that date, but he was buried in Half
Moon Bay in Our Lady of Pillar cemetery. I wonder why he came up being
there? Unfortunately no one has the local paper for 1923. It is MIA at all
the libraries.

Eddie: This shows a Catherine Cardoza buried in 1881 with husband buried in
1923 at Lady of Pillar in Half Moon Bay. If this is your Cardoza it would
explain death in Hayward yet burial in Half Moon Bay in a pre-existing plot.
Paperwork for either burial might have place of birth/baptism
Don't worry about looking on the UPEC. Kathy Cardoza looked at that along
with Half Moon Bay and a big fat nothing.

OK, saw that one just not Cardoso/zo. I work tomorrow at my FHC so I'll
look up the UPEC Death Index for him and see what I find.

Hi Pam, thanks for the help. He died in Haywood, CA and had been living in
Santa Clara, but I haven't been able to find any obit for him. I find that
odd since he had family all around. I am not sure when he got married, if
it was in the United States or Pico. Based in the US Census he either
Eddie, If he lived in Half Moon Bay that early maybe you need to check the
UPEC Fraternal Records. Those records are on microfilm that you can order
thru the Family History Library and have sent to your local Family History
Center. If you live anywhere near Monterey CA, I have the films on loan at
If you don't live close you can request a obit search to San Jose library
by going to your local library and requesting it. I think it's 5.00 dollars

I do have his death Certificate and he is in the California death index
under Cardoza, Manuel F. May 22, 1923. On his death certificate he is
listed as Manuel S. Cardoza and the same date.
