I'm not sure if this will help you, Frank, but I think the Jacob R.
Gervasio in the obit is my great grandfather, who went by the name Jacob
Rodriques and had a farm in the Franklin district. My grandmother told us
that he dropped the Gervasio name because he had a relative (brother?) with
Antonio son of Manuel pereira Machado, native of Capelo, and of Domingas
Pereira native of this parish. Born December 31 1714 and baptized Jan 3 1715

Hello Philippe, below is my ahnentafel chart for Antonio Nunes Costa, a

able to extend the family line another 3 generations!!! and clarify some of
my research. Thank you.

Hi Liz,
I don't know if my transcription "oultimo" is correct, and I don't know if
that's an archaic spelling or if it's particular to the priest. "Ultimo"
is the Portuguese word for "last" or "latest".
As Bill pointed out, the record most likely says "bautizado na pia desta
parochia",
Ultimate means the last. It is used in older American records as well.

Oh, ok. I bet you were surprised to find your ancestors in it! That must
have been a nice surprise! I'm sure Edna would be happy to know it helped
you. Take care.

I think that the father's name is Manoel Pereira Machado, looks like Mdo
not Mca as the abbreviation. I may be wrong. I agree with Domingas Pereira
as Mom.

Yes, I see 3 Jan now too. :/
I was stumped by "pia", a word I didn't know, and on deciding that it might
be the abbreviation for primeira, didn't read the rest in context. It's a
good reminder to me to try to read and consider the entire record.
Thanks Bill!

Not that it makes any difference, but I think the baptism date is 3 Jan and
is on the next line after "bautizado na pia desta paroquial por mim..."
(baptized in the basin of this parish by me...)

I also meant to add that if you look at the side note you will see a
tabulated number, which is the Priest's calculation at his death.
This Antonio died in 1790 at 76 years of age and was born in 1714

I think you're right about the father's name.
The mother's name might be Domingas Pereira?
Maria da Rosa is the name of the godfather's wife.
I think Antonio was born on the last day of Dec ("oultimo"?) and was
baptised on the first of Jan ("p.ra desta").
Difficult record for me :)
L.
Sherry, I have my own copy. I was just so surprised that I found my
ancestors in it. Thank you anyway.

Hi and thank you
Does this say Dec 31 1784 he died?
If so I've found another mess up on the Uminho site. Is it just my
relatives that get messed up. Beginning to think they didn't want to be
found. lol

Manuel Furtado, 70 years old (more or less). Living at Fonte do Meio (name

the right Manuel Furtado
