It's ganhadeiro. It looks like a nickname to me, meaning one who is a
"winner', or who is winning. It may have a specific meaning in its
historical time that I am not aware of.

It looks like Gandadeiro but its nothing I've seen before.
I'm not very experienced-- JR has the the definitive word here. :)
But, I'm very happy to have a look at your record, and this is what I can
read about Alexandria:
Alexandria, 29 yrs old, single, [---ada de servir = I guess, domestic
service/duties], native and baptised in the parish of Nossa
That makes a little more sense, Linda, and looks closer to what looks like
Garcia on another granddaughter’s baptismal entry. Tereza is looking pretty
good as well. JR seems to agree as well and all the other info is what I
could read so thanks for the confirmation!

Hi Joanne,
Right side, Top entry
I think it looks like Andre Gracia, which is a variant of Garcia, if I
understand rightly. If you look at the "C" in "nasces" (right after
Maria's last name), it's the same as in "Gracia". The "a" looks like an
"o" to me too, but I'm fairly sure it's an "a".
This is what it looks like to me, but I'm not positive about it all:
Antonio Paes viuvo de Victoria Novais filho de Joao dos Reis Balieiro e de
sua mulher Izabel G.lz [Goncalves] com Luzia de Gloria de S.to An.to [Santo
Antonio] f.a de Joao de Avis defunto e de sua mulher Maria Luis

Ok, here’s a brick wall I’ve been trying to crack for years. The surnames
of the maternal grandparents in this document are different than the little
information I have had on them. Here is their grandson’s baptism info —>
Lisbon church records are online same place Azores and fairly easy to find if
you have church and date to go by. They also have some passport records too.

If you tested after the mid-May date (no, Ancestry isn't going to tell
FTDNA the competition when they are changing formats), it wouldn't
transfer. FTDNA would refund you.

It would be nice if FTDNA listed that May 2016 thing. What if I'd already
bought the upload version? I wasn't doing it to save $10 ($58 versus $69).
I was doing it to speed things up.

If you tested with Ancestry before mid-May of this year (2016), you can
transfer. It will be the Family Finder.

St. Michael's is Sao Miguel. In the Azores. San Miguel island is one of the
Channel Islands off the coast of California. Wrong ocean. Sao is Portuguese
and San is Spanish.

Oh, and one last thing. FTDNA allows transfer from Ancestry for a smaller

Hi Cheri,
Thank you. I am still digging out which part of the Azores he is from but
it turns out the naming conventions making things even weirder. I am 99%
sure I tracked him to the boat he came over on, which was the Romanic in
1911. His name on the boat was actually Joao M. Silva. He had
Yes, it says "Santos Velhos" but you got it...it should be recorded
Santos-o-Velho. and do you know why?
Simply because there are two (2) in Lisbon, named Santos: Santos-o-Velho
(church) and Santos-o-Novo (monastery).
Have a look.

on the 11th line I think it is the following: ?- means I'm not sure.
Antonio Paes viuvo de Victoria Novais? filho de Joao do Reis Balieiro? e
sua mulher Izabel G R? com Luzia da Gloria def to? Anto? fa. de Joao de

Oops, and Candido's mom's name, right at the watermark. I have an idea, I
just want to be sure. Thanks!

It looks like Santos something, I think Santos Velhos, but I'm to record it
as
Rosemari and Cheri.
There used to be the parish of Santos as well but in 2012 it was separated
and absorbed by the parish of Estrela. The bairro/neighbourhood of Santos
i.e. where the church was built is still there but no longer considered of
"freguesia".
Hope this helps clarify.

Cheri,
It reads "igreja de Santos da cidade de Lisboa" The full name is actually
Santos-o-Velho. I was there last month.

Hi
How do I contact someone listed on my family finder? I thought it used to
give the email address but I can't seem to find it now.
This is the first person I've ever seen with the last name of my family
