luiznoia,
Thank you so much for finding the 1880 census! With the Ignacio being
spelled Ygnacio, and John using the Portuguese spelling Joao, no wonder I
couldn't find them. They did have a son named Joseph, and a lot of other
children. I do have Filomena coming to the U.S. in 1868, but it is wi
You can find the family on the 1880 census in township 1, contra costa, as
Joao and Filomena Ygnacio.
Joseph is seven years old. It seems all the other children born before 1880
died except him

When looking at the 1900 census, there are good clues there.
They both arrived in 1868, 32 years before, and have been married 30 years.
So they married in the Azores, and arrived together.
Do you have any documents showing Faial as Emma birthplace ?

but no one can find anything about him. Do you have any info on Joseph and
Frances?
Thanks,
Sami

Kathie,
You can't just guess at the J. He could be Miguel Jose or Miguel Joaquim,
Miguel Jorge, the list goes on.
It's Ignacio. It's going to sound slight different on different islands and
will sound different on the Continent. It doesn't always sound like Enos.

I would like to update that I ordered my great grandmother Emma's death
certificate and it arrived today. I didn't expect to see anything I didn't
already know, but her mother's name was NOT listed on that document as
Emma. It was "Mary Vargas". Her father was John Enos. I'm sure that back in
