Article on The first modern human dispersals across Africa The figures
are interesting. We have some La01's in the Project.

Looks like farming which started in West Africa played an important role in
the dispersal of certain Mtdna Lineages throughout Africa.

The only matches I have presently are two HVR1 from Pico One of those also
tested HVR2 and they have two more mutations than I have. As I stated my line
is on Sao Miguel. While there are Test results from Sao Miguel we are too many
mutations off for a recent ancestor.
There are only 5
Thank you,
Very interesting, This seems to address the results of the slave trade. My line
is on Sao Miguel in the early 1600’s so I tend to believe they came through
Portugal and Spain and would reflect Moorish occupation.

However those are interesting matches even though they are only at the HVR1
level if I recall there is a 90% chance the common ancestor is within the
last 1,300 years suggesting that the all 3 maternal lines are related
distantly, there certainly is a good chance that all three arrived in Sao
We have used the last of the DNA on a full Sequence which is due back in a week
or so. I have had only two matches in the Azores DNA Project on the low level
test But neither were from the same Island. Mine came from Ponta Delgada, Sao
Miguel.

Are either of your two matches from Pico? I have found quite a bit of
evidence connecting Piedade, Pico to Ponta Delgada and Ribeira Grande Sao
Miguel.

L2a is the most common and widely distributed Sub-Saharan haplogroup almost
as common in some areas of Africa as H in Western Europe, have you upgraded

Hi Antonio.
That's interesting...I'll see which chromosome mine and U.J's are on.

Hi Mary,
Both my uncle and I are showing Hazda..small %'s. Me slightly higher than
his. Within the Ethio helix k10 for middle east admixture, my Hazda is 1.28%
and Uncle John is 1.15%. Very interesting that you've met this group!
These admixture charts fascinate me!

Hello,
This study is a few years old but I hadn't noticed it before. I have
noticed that it isn't unusual for some of my family finder matches to have
between 1-3% African DNA I am referring to West African and East African
not North African DNA. My mother has myorigins results show 2% East
Hi Antonio,
Thanks for the article...it was quite timely for me since I've been on Gedmatch
looking at my admixture information. Within my Middle Eastern there are links
to several areas of Africa.

I have indicators showing some North African DNA. What was interesting to
me was the Hazda people in the population list.
There are no indications that I have that DNA, but I happened to visit
these hunter gatherers when I was in Tanzania a few years ago. A very

I personally find the whole thing fascinating it is believed the San People
are the most similar to the the original group of 2,000-10,000 people
estimated that all people descend from.
