Eric G,
Some cemeteries will tell me who is surrounding the grave and other
cemeteries won't let me see (because it's an invasion of privacy -
What?!?! They are dead! How can I invade their privacy??)
I guess it just proves that after someone talks to a cemetery, you can go
to the monument

Eric,
I am still having trouble tracing the Borba line in California. I
can't believe with all those kids that they produced only three
children. Perhaps the obits would help me...where do you search
normally for obits?

Dear Gail,
No need for the cemetery to charge you. There is a website that I take pictures
for of grave sites. It is called
www.findagrave.com. Look up the cemetery or the person's name to see if it has
already been done. If not there is a place to send a request. I have my
ancestors in a
Adair,
Most obits I get are from the newspaper collections at Ancestry. With the
large East Bay Portuguese communities, the Oakland Tribune and the Hayward
reviews turn up the most.
You show six grandchildren from Manuel and Jennie on the Borba tree. Were
you talking about another generation?
Thanks Eric, I am still trying to find documentation for Manuel and
Jennies kids, and their kids...hoping to find the living!!

What is the best method to finding marriage records? I have family from
Hawaii that moved to California, my Aunty Rosaline married a Joe Moniz
Lindinha. Their son died about 26 years old and they had two daughters. I
have no idea where to start to see if they got married. Any suggestions? I
Gail,
I'm not clear on your time line.
Rosaline marries Joe and they have a son. 26 years after that son's death,
they have 2 daughters. But you don't know if Rosaline married Joe? But
then you state that they moved with 3 children. But that doesn't make
sense because you said their son died
Gail,
I can find them on 1920 census in Wainaku, HI
Joe Lindinha 30 b. 7/5/1889 HI, laborer, sugar farm, Rosalina S. 25 b. HI,
Alfred M. 4 1/2?(Hard to read) b. HI, Marie 1 6 1/2 b. HI. Joe's parents
are Augusto Moniz Lindinha and Maria Olinda Machado. I think this is

Sorry Cheri, I'm always rushing and not very clear. Let me start from the
beginning. My grandfathers sister Rosaline de Souza born in 1895 in Hawaii
married Joe Moniz Lindinha who was born in 1891 or 1889 in Hawaii also. They
married in Hawaii and had 3 children Alfred (1916), Mary (1919)
Someone has done an extensive study of the Augusto Moniz Lindinha family on
Ancestry with great pictures and there is a son Joseph Moniz Lindinha b.
1891-1958 but it doesn't look like yours??? but Augusto Sr. does have
children named Caroline, Maria, Isabella, Manuel, John, Augusto Jr., and

Thanks for helping me, I live in Hawaii and I just can't fly over to do
research so any help I can get I appreciate. I just received both Joe and his

Oh my God Eric you are an angel, how in the world did you find that obituary?
Yes, the son did die at 26 years of age. This obituary now gives me the
married names of their daughters. Apparently they seemed to have a another
child by the name of John who was born in California. Joseph's
Gail,
Before you contact the cemetery office for a picture, I'd check to see if
someone has created a memorial for them on Find A Grave. If not, then you
can create a memorial and then call the cemetery office to verify that the
graves are marked. If they are marked, then click the Request a
