I've recently setup a new backuppc server to backup a couple of linux
and windows machines. One of the problems I have is that I am backing up
a windows XP laptop using rsyncd, but backuppc sees some 'errors' and
assumes the level 0 backup failed. However, these errors are not an

I've got a client who is not comfortable just having their data on the
backuppc. They want something they can put in a fireproof safe.
What's the best way to implement that with backuppc?

Is anyone doing windows backups (including open files) using the volume
shadow copy service?
It seems that it shouldn't be too hard to even do bare-metal restores by
combining VSS with fileacl or setacl to record & restore NTFS ACLs on
files and dirs.
Does anyone have a recipe for doing this,

happens. Good suggestion.

Jason,
I'm still new to backuppc. However, as a general
troubleshooting step...if you move the large file to a machine that is backing
up ok, does it succeed?
That should tell us at least if it's specific to the
backuppc machine/config or specific to the windows box.

I will do one more 3.0.0 beta by the end of this month.
That should be very close to the final 3.0.0 release.

Recently I found out that my BackupPC 2.1.2pl2 backups are not really
reliable - lots of files are missing, and I have mostly empty folders.
Let me illustrate.
A Windows server, has these folders:
Config.Msi/
Dfs/
DfsRoot/
Dokumente und Einstellungen/
GPO-Backups/
HPTEMPG/
ID/
Inetpub/

Hey guys,
My experience
version 3.0.0beta1 to me seems as solid as you get. my setup really

The big thing with version 3 is the ability to edit configuration and
hosts files per pc and globally via the cgi interface. This is HUGE as
it means full adm

However, ssh + rsync do work, but it seems that BackupPC 2.1.2 does not start the
