I have the same problem. It only happens (or I only realize it) with newsgroups with lots of articles. I have set debug-on-quit t and this is the stack (at this moment gnus has received and parsed all messages and keeps on waiting almost forever) Signalling: (quit) file-directory-p("~/.bbdb")
