I have some problems with elided display, i.e. I have
bbdb-pop-up-elided-display set to t and that's what I get. But I have
many entries where the company-field is to long to fit into
bbdb-elided-display-name-end which triggers a signal. The following

Ah, it's the overlapping overlays that are the problem
of that, then I then have trouble
deleting individual records with delete-current-field-or-record - it
asks for confirmation, I give it, and everything stops. If I ^g out of
it the field does then disappear.
I tracked it down (I think) as far as bbdb-list-hook, which runs
bbdb-fontify-buffer. If I
Well off course there was one thing I didn't try: waiting a *long*
time. That did it. Solution (other than a faster computer) seems to be
(setq bbdb-list-hook nil) in my .emacs.
