The biggest reason I've used it and stuck with it for nearly 20 years
is it is
For me, one key feature is the robust support for regular expression search and
replace. I have dozens of saved patterns I use regularly, and two AppleScripts
that I’ve incorporated with regular expression searches that I simply could not
live without.

I mean that bbedit is great on many many counts. There are numerous features
that I could not live without. Color scheme and run modes are cool but there is
much more.
Great app

Hey Cerulean, and any other reading this months or years later,
As I was writing, Blinde's message popped up. How the heck did blinde see
what I was writing?
Everything Blinde wrote, other than tennis and the view, mine is a
mountainous forest, is very similar to my history and feelings about
i'm a web developer, building sites with php and mysql (for the most part).
although i don't use all of bbedit's functionality it's the ultimate power
tool for what i (and apparently many others) do.
the developers have always been incredibly responsive, supportive,
proactive and consistently

Hey Cerulean,
It's a solid editor with a large tool-set, and it's probably the most

- this group. I've put once a question in the official Sublime Text
group. I've got an answer a good couple of months after it.

Hey Gauvins,
Huh?
That's very vague. Please be more specific.

Hey Gauvins,
When looking for commands in Mac apps always try the search field in the Help
Menu.
It will find any menu item whether or not it is active.
As of v12.5

I can only give a subjective answer, because I never go far comparing it
with others (time to re adapt, laziness). I surprise

It works, it has a "solid feel" to it, it does everything I need (mostly
the way I want to do it), great support, when I want to do something new
it's usually already implemented and "it still doesn't suck"
I love the Project view, it keeps my text docs organized. I'm not even a
programmer.

Was using textwrangler (now deprecated I believe)) and wanted some of the more
advanced features offered by bbedit.
Wrt to critical features... The ability to run Python in the terminal and color
schemes come to mind, but it mischaracterizes my appreciation.

So, I found the reason, and it is not related to BBEdit (got the same
behaviour with Preview and other apps):
