About the cursor, I noticed that Peter Borg's latest Smultron release
changes the insertion color between black and white based on the
background it is over. Pretty cool! Maybe you could add that kind of
functionality?

Same here. The new "Save a Version" feature sounds scary, but if it
works, it sounds awesome too - versioning for the rest of us!
