I would be very curious to see the slimserver.log file located
somewhere on your systems.

DO NOT USE iTunes! ;) My slimserver version comes with alac to decode
apple lossless. I don't know if it also does aac though. I would
suggest transcoding the whole collection probably overnight to
ogg/vorbis if it has to be lossy for space considerations. Yep, I know

Not sure if this was reported, but when changing from New Default to
classic, the settings page jumps out of the frame. Seems to spawn a new
page/tab in Firefox.
Also when you got to change back from classic to default, a link
appears saying something like, click here to refresh with the new UI.

Thanks for the report. The settings pages still are to be done. I'll check this
behaviour then.

I assume that means just create the file as if it were a text file..

No problem on the interface, just passing along a symptom. I love the
skin and that little quirk isnt a real problem at all.

No, the sync fixes are only for 7.0. If you don't like the new skin
(which is still being developed btw!) you can use /Classic.

Well, here is the thing.
This is happening on clean builds, nothing changed from a default
install at all. Only updates. I basically build the system, do the
updates, and then follow the wiki to install slimserver.
On several different physical systems as well.

the new skin. I'm a "learn by example" guy and can't seem to find the
HTML pages that the included plugins are using for the new skin. Where
can I look?

I've just installed V7.0 and a can't figure out a couple of things,

There is a random play for tracks tied to shuffle.hold. if you want
to move to 7 again, look in Default.map for the command.

I would agree with you that installing SS7 via this method doesn't work
right now, and needs to be fixed. I came upon a very similar issue when
I tried via this method.
However, if you are just looking to have a working SS7 on Ubuntu, I
suggest downloading the tar.gz source code and running from
any instructions in how to install via .tar.gz?

I don't think that applies here, Mark. Slimserver doesn't need to be
compiled, so the `./configure, make, make install` convention isn't
applicable.
I'm going to give you some rough directions. Give this a shot and see
if you have success (and let me know).

./slimserver --daemon will give you back your shell and run in the
background, so in that respect: yes. However, this method does not
include init scripts, which is what allows your machine to startup
slimserver on boot. So, if you reboot your machine, you will need to
run ./slimserver.pl --daemon

One last stupid question for the Ubuntu newbie. Are there any packages
I need to install before installing slimserver? And if so, what are
they. Documentation on this is slim, most of the stuff I have found
before wasting your time has been on rpm's.
