DO NOT USE iTunes! ;) My slimserver version comes with alac to decode apple lossless. I don't know if it also does aac though. I would suggest transcoding the whole collection probably overnight to ogg/vorbis if it has to be lossy for space considerations. Yep, I know it is not exactly what you as

Not sure if this was reported, but when changing from New Default to classic, the settings page jumps out of the frame. Seems to spawn a new page/tab in Firefox. Also when you got to change back from classic to default, a link appears saying something like, click here to refresh with the new UI.

./slimserver --daemon will give you back your shell and run in the background, so in that respect: yes. However, this method does not include init scripts, which is what allows your machine to startup slimserver on boot. So, if you reboot your machine, you will need to run ./slimserver.pl --daemon
