Go to the service in the services list - double click to bring up its properties. Go to Log On tab and change it to Local System. The one reason you might want it running as your user is if it is connecting to any network/shared resources. Since Local System won't have permissions to view these

Are you running on Windows? I'll bet this bug is still valid for the most recent Softsqueeze builds: 'Bug 4736: Softsqueeze on Windows doesn't accept command-line options' (http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=4736) The only way I've ever gotten Softsqueeze headless to work is to use

This just happened to me again. I shut down SC7, did an SVN update, then restarted the server (running as a service under XP). It took an unusually long time before anything was displayed on the nearby SB2 screen (maybe 30-45 seconds, when it's usually less than 5), then I saw 'Now Playing...'.
