LMS should already transcode FLAC to PCM for DLNA clients, no extra work

We are big fans of SPDY and have thought about upgrading some of our
protocols to use it in the future. We see it more from the perspective
of helping MySB handle an increasing number of persistent connections,
but it would also be useful for LMS too.
To transcode files via download, you just construct a URL like
/music/$id/download.mp3?bitrate=320
The extension provided after download determines the desired format,
and the bitrate param is valid for MP3 (a quality param is also
supported). Obviously you will need LAME installed.
I can assure you that Logitech is supporting Squeezebox more than ever,
and we are working on several things behind the scenes. For example, we
have some large projects in the works to scale up MySB that will not be
visible to users (unless we screw it up :)

players? I never completely understood the logic behind the current
precedence.
I would guess that AIFF is given precedence because the ip3k CPU is
natively big-endian, and so it results in some smaller amount of
processing needed during playback.

It's been fixed. AIFF (big-endian) transcoding is needed for DLNA. SBs
can play either big or little endian, but the wrong value was being
sent for playback in this case.

You can browse by folder too, obviously video tagging is nowhere near
where music file tagging is. We do try to read at least tagged titles
from videos if they have them though.
Thumbnails are generated by LMS.

AVI and MP4 files can be tagged the same as WMA/MP4 audio files, since
they use the same container. I am not sure about tagging for other
formats. There are probably a lot where you can't tag them at all.

I fixed the problem with prefs not loading, the prefs save function was
double-encoding some UTF-8 chars, for me it was caused by the name of

The DLNA specs completely ignore all open codecs like FLAC and Vorbis,
so no surprise there. If you want support for these in a DLNA client
you will have to try something more geeky like an Oppo Blu-ray player.
MP3 is required for all clients though.

FYI currently the image title logic is very simple: XPTitle or
ImageDescription, then filename. Would certainly welcome any
suggestions on improving this. I would like to stay away from
camera-specific hacks though, if at all possible.

Michael probably just chose ImageDescription because it looked like a
good field. But obviously it's not being used as a real image
description.
BTW I just checked in API hooks for new images and videos. They are
slightly different than tracks.

The shm/wal files don't stay around unless you've force-killed the
server or it crashed. You can just delete them.
