object that already has a material, it duplicates the previous material into
the new slot. The previous behavior was to create a new slot that was linked
to the same material. Personally I find this new behavior

I agree, either make a link of the same material or just leave the
material slot unused. Making copies of the same material is pretty
weird and messy

I would love to implement inferred rendering options in to the Blender Game
Engine (especially as deferred rendering becomes more and more common in
games and engines) as a Google Summer of Code project.
To this end, I would appreciate any feedback on my proposal:
I would love to see this project get completed, as I have desperately
needed a better workflow for motion capture data. It is sad to have access
to a motion capture system, but no good way to use it in Blender Games.
The retargeting especially will be very useful.

Hello Daniel,
first of all I like your proposal, it seems like an interesting gsoc project.
The only thing I miss there is a short comparison (can be a table or
so) between the current bge render egine, inferred rendering and other
methods (e.g. deferred rendering).
