Tim Wong, long-time bicycle activist and advocate for biking, and improvements
to bike infrastructure, passed away Monday, June 26, 2017. He was 68.
Those who knew and respected Tim and his work on behalf of the biking community
are warmly invited to Tim's Celebration of Life, Saturday July 8,
Thank you for this beautiful tribute and explanation of Tim's contributions
to the bicycling community. I worked with Tim in his later years of
advocacy, while on the SASY neighborhood's transportation committee
together. Tim did not waver from practicing the perspectives he was
preaching, which is

I will always remember Tim's characterization of the people on the ped bike
committee as "cops and helmets types".
Those people are still out there and many hold positions of power that mean
their views are degrading the bicycling environment.

I went to the hospital Saturday to see Tim and say goodbye. He wasn't able
to talk so I had to carry on the conversation for both of us. Luckily
talking is a special talent of mine. We observed the massive new parking
deck just outside his window, which was obscuring the view of the capital

Tim served on the TPC for many years. He was not reappointed by a former Mayor.
He was a great advocate for Metro too. He did speak his mind and was also quite
strategic. And funny and very smart. He will be missed.

You mean "John No-Lane".
Damn. Love him or hate him, I don't reckon we'll see his kind around
anytime soon. I say we all plant out our terraces in pollinator gardens
in his honor.
Godspeed, Tim.

Bummer. He was already one of the grey heads of bicycle advocacy when I
arrived in Madison in '87. He, along with Mark Shahan and Lisa Goodman, was
a founding member of the BTA and of whatever organization preceded it, the
name of which I forget. Madison used to have a Bike/Ped Commission, of
