Point Pelee Park Bird Report May 17
Not many migrants reported in the tip area. Good day, especially for song, and
there was a variety of warblers and other species throughout the park. However,
winds switched to south, and brought a small reverse migration to the point,
starting somewhere near

Blenheim sewage lagoons are ca. 1 km west of Blenheim. Take 3 (the Talbot
Trail) westbound to Lagoon Rd. Turn N off 3 and drive to the first gate.

I was informed of a Lewis's Woodpecker that has been a regular at a bird
feeder at a farm 19km on Hwy 617 north of Stratton -a small town on Hwy 11
between Fort Frances and Rainy River in Northwestern Ontario. The bird
showed up on or about May 12, I observed and photographed it on May15.

ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK yesterday at Lighthouse Point.
More WARBLERS today than previous days, including NORTHERN PARULA and
YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT. Both YELLOW-BILLED and BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO at Fish
Point. VIRGINIA RAILS and SORAS easily heard and seen at Fox Pond. Another
VIRGINIA RAIL at Cooper Rd.

Our crew, returning from Pelee, were fortunate enough to see and photograph
the bird at 4:00 p.m. May 17th at the Tollgate Ponds.
This was our fourth Wilson's for the trip - Phalarope [Blenheim], Warbler,
Snipe and of course Plover ... not bad

Not too many migrants around today but a few pockets of warblers, etc. could be
found and in total 19 species of warbler were reported. These included a
Connecticut, Hooded and Mourning along the South Pt. Trail. Thrushes were

On Sunday, 16 May, in the morning, a Red-headed Woodpecker was caught and
banded at the research station of the Bruce Peninsula Bird Observatory
(Cabot Head, on the Georgian Bay). It was the second ever banded for the
Observatory.
And on Monday, 17 May, a White-eyed Vireo was banded, the
George Preiksaitis saw the Wilsons plover at the same location at Tollgate
ponds at 8.30pm this evening, May 17.

Hi all
Today on our way home from 10 days of birding Stan Bajurny and I stopped at
the lagoons for a quick binocular check and were rewarded with a breeding
plumaged Eared Grebe in the NE lagoon (the 2nd one straight out from the
gate).

Ottawa now has 2 peregrine chicks. As the other 2 eggs are no more, we will
