Hi Ontbirders:
The American White Pelican and at least one juvenile
Black-legged Kittiwake were still present at the Moodie Drive Quarry pond as of
11:30am. The Kiitiwake was flying around and the Pelican was still busy
feeding when I left. A few terns were seen as well.
Today I saw a pair of Sandhill Cranes preening and feeding in a grassy pasture
on the 20th Sideroad of Bradford-West Gwillimbury just south of the 14th Line.
Presumably this is the same pair that were courting and feeding in the area
back in the spring, although I was not able to observe any "co

At about 6.15 pm today, the pelican was sitting (not very active) on a small
island in the southeast portion of the pond. Also present was at least one
juvenile black-legged Kittiwake, flying close to the road.

These first few weeks of August have seen an increase in local bird activity
around Newmarket, Bradford and Keswick. The canal that demarcates the northern
border of the Holland Marsh is now being visited daily by adults and juveniles
of three heron species: Black-crowned, Green, and Grea

Tonight after receiving a call from Mary Hart I saw an American White Pelican
along the Lake Erie shoreline at Port Colborne. She first found the bird around
5 pm. We arrived at about 7:30 pm and had brief but good scope views before the
bird flew off to the west.
