This evening at approximately 7:15 PM, I observed a male Orchard Oriole, along
the Bowmanville Creek walking trail, approximately 100 yds north of the parking
lot on Baseline Rd., east of Reg. Rd 57. It was singing in a couple of old pear
trees that are in bloom between the trail and the creek.

the male PRAIRIE WARBLER that has been reported in Ramsden Park in Downtown
Toronto this morning was still present tonight around 6pm. It took me
approximately 40 minutes to find it, since it was mostly silent. However it
showed really well and was beautiful, it sang a couple of tim

which this nature area is known for, I heard the constant low booming call
of the American Bittern and saw a few Wilson's Snipes flying around and

Still present this evening. Heard and seen between 6 and 6:20 p.m. working
the tops of the tall trees along the laneway. It prefers the trees that
have not leafed out. It is a bright male.
Other birds present included a Field Sparrow and a female Cape May Warbler.

After work I birded the Bill Mason Centre for a little over an hour. There are
many WILSON'S SNIPES winnowing throughout the marsh (I counted at least six).
There were also several VIRGINIA RAILS calling around. When I arrived I first
heard a whinny of a SORA coming from the eastern side of

Today Margaret and I only birded Hanlans Point and a bit of Gibralter Point
and again a beautiful Spring day. There were some nice changes from yesterday

The suspected clay-colored sparrow i first observed yesterday has been
confirmed based on photos and observation by another birder this morning.
Thanks to the many who responded to help ID this bird. It's an unusual bird as

This morning I took the long way to work and birded around the Ottawa Airport
and Mer Bleue Conservation Area.
With cool, clear and calm conditions, the Airport lived up to its reputation
for field and thicket species including Brown Thrasher, House Wren, Eastern
Meadowlark and Eastern Blue

Yesterday during the May planting rush at our farm, I looked up to catch two
Sandhill cranes heading west towards Lake Huron. Since we're just west of
Stratford, this is not something I see every spring!

I made a brief visit to the "Wet Woods" at the base of the Spit about 6 PM last
evening (Monday). There have been few reports from this area which may reflect
the relative quiet migration at this point.
After seeing very little, I ran into a mixed flock on the South side of the
woods:
