At 9:30 this morning I found 4 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS at Lemoine Point in
Kingston. They were at the same location where I found crossbills on February
21st. which probably means they're hanging around the area. There were also 2
BARRED OWLS close by. You can view a photo at flickr.com/p
This morning I had a Barrow's Goldeneye in the Ottawa River at Petrie
Island. He was hanging out with Common Goldeneyes. There were also
some Common Mergansers.
A little later I had a Northern Shrike in a small grove of trees just
south of the corner of Trim Road and Springridge Drive.

My daughter and I drove around the Pelee Birding Area in search of uncommon
Waterfowl this morning with no luck. Got home went to clean up the backyard
while hundreds of Canada Geese flew by- for some reason I decided to actually
look up at one flock and there it was a new Yard list
I have just received a report with photos of a Western Grebe. The photos
appear to be from 3:30 PM today. The bird was found and photographed by
James and Christopher Boccia.

We just returned from a very successful day of delightful early spring birding
in the Long Point area. Most of the species we saw have been well documented in
previous reports, but a recent significant arrival was a Northern Flicker seen
at Bird Studies Canada.

This past Wednesday at about 5 o’clock, I noticed a pair of Peregrine Falcons
coming in to land and seemingly roost for the night, on the Brampton Courthouse
building at 7755 Hurontario St. Then yesterday, I again saw the two falcons
(presumably the same pair) on that same building several times

Today I observed many large flocks of migrant Canada Geese crossing Lake
Ontario and coming in overhead above my house. Just after 5:15 p.m., I noticed
a group of 6 Greater White-fronted Geese in a flock of 160+ Canada Geese flying
northwest over Thickson Woods. They were

This afternoon around 4:30, my wife Lynn and I were crossing the 2nd
line bridge over the Grand River and stopped to look at some Common
Goldeneyes and see what else might be around. I spotted what I
tentatively identified as a Harlequin Duck. A quick phone call to Dan
Eusebi and Marleen

The weather was not sunny - but there birds were nice. We saw the usual
early migrants: RWBB's, Robins, and a Cardinal. The Canada Geese were loudly
complaining about something.
We had a nice surprise along the entrance to the marina (west side) with
three horned grebes in Winter pluma

This evening at 7:45pm, in spite of the heavy snow cover, at least 3
WOODCOCKS were calling and displaying. They were at the SouthWest corner of
Ausable Line and 83 Highway (Dashwood Rd). This is two concessions west of
Exeter in southern Huron County.

A brief scan of the waters off Bluffer's Park/Marina this afternoon (March
13, 2011) turned up a female Harlequin Duck and three Iceland Gulls. The
Harlequin duck was swimming off a breakwater at 43.70502, -79.23307, close
to a parking lot.
