After hitting 298 and 299 all time Ontario birds with the Slaty-backed Gull
and Black-throated Grey Warbler, I took a long trip up toward Eganville
today to try for the Rufous Hummingbird that has been present since Sept.
I arrived around 12:40 and the bird was quite cooperative showin
Well above freezing temperatures and rain on several days this
week kept the big lakes wide open and melted away nearly all
the snow. Very unusual for this date on the Algonquin Highlands.
Common Loon: Adult on Lake of Two Rivers on December 13.

Despite the relative paucity of birders visiting Presqu'ile Provincial
Park recently (except for a dedicated few seeking Purple Sandpipers),
there have been some interesting, not to say amazing, finds this week,
and the upcoming Christmas Bird Count on Sunday promises to reveal even
more. The
The 18th annual Huntsville Christmas Bird Count was held on
Wednesday, December 14. Temperatures were above freezing all
day, there was very little snow on the ground, and all water was
open. Light rain began at 3 pm but had minimal effect on the results.

At 4:55 I saw a Snowy Owl (likely female) sitting mid-section on the
decommissioned lake freighter that forms the east end of Port Credit
Harbour. No photo opportunity, scope almost necessary.
This is count week for the South Peel Naturalists' Christmas Bird Count.

A bunch of us just found a Wilson s Warbler along the waterfront trail in
Hamilton. Seen by Barb Charlton, Peter Burke, Reuven Martin, Barry Jones, Lucas
Foerster, Mark Dorriesfield and myself. The Blackthroated Gray and Blue-gray

At 0930h this morning a flock of 15 Purple Sandpiper was hanging out at Gull
Island at Prequ'ile Provincial Park. Other goodies include Snowy Owl and
Iceland Gull.
To reach Presq'uile, take the exit off the 401 to Brighton. Head south into
