Today's report of a large number of blue morph Snow Geese along with a
similar report last week at Winchester are indicative of the migration of
Lesser Snow Geese through Eastern Ontario. Beginning just a few years ago,
a significant number of Lessers, the same birds that appear in southern
Ontario
Spring migrants seen today during a short outing included 2 Fox Sparrows, a
few Song Sparrows, 1 Brown Creeper, a large number of GC Kinglets
(practically close enough to touch), and 1 E. Phoebe. These were seen by
walking south along the fence that borders the east side of the marina,

The slowly unfolding spring is gradually giving us some interesting birds up
here north of Toronto. On Good Friday I checked Bathurst St. N. in Holland
Landing and had my first SONG SPARROW of the spring plus a RED-BELLIED
WOODPECKER doing its "Quir" calls. At the Holland Landing lagoons I
At 7:00 p.m. tonight I found a RUFF at the north bridge of Hillman Marsh, the
one which is about a mile east of Hillman Church.
At about 7:40 p.m. the bird was then seen from the south side of the marsh, as
one walks east from the gated road.
Both times the bird was with a single Greater Yello
On today's OFO trip the group saw a total of 61 species. We birded the Otonabee
River, Lakefield Sewage Lagoons, the Nephton and Petroglyphs area, Burleigh
Falls, Young's Point Road, Orange Corners and Morton Line.
Highlights included 15 species of waterfowl, 2 Bald Eagles at the nest on Lake

It was a great morning for migrating geese here in Eastern Ontario.
In addition to ubiquitous Canada Geese – with a few Cackling Geese noted –
I saw 2000 SNOW GEESE at 0930 along Milton Road in the fields south of
Navan east of Ottawa.

The flooded fields of Milton Rd, east of Ottawa, today finally had Snow
Geese, likely more than 1000. There are still several thousand Canada
Geese. Others: 1 Great Blue Heron, 1 Northern Pintail, 1 Ring-necked Duck,
1 Rough-legged Hawk being chased by a Common Raven, and 2 Sandhill Cranes.

I birded Sam Smith from 12:30pm to 2:30pm this Sunday, April 7th. The Western
Grebe was present and tried unsuccessfully to fly west into a stiff headwind
from the mouth of the marina bay (West end of park) out into open water. Each
time it tried it was forced to land and was blown back into t
OVer the past two days we have had bluebirds,swamp sparrow,golden crowned
kinglet and tow tree swallows near the visitor centre.

Seen at 11:00 a.m. this morning on the edge of Queen's Park across Queen's
Park Circle at the North East end. Very tame and very vocal.

Visiting my parents' house today, where I grew up and birded very intensively
from 1980 to 1990, sporadically since then, I was fortunate to see a flock of
about 70 Bohemian Waxwings fly by. There seem to a lot of them around this
winter and early spring. This sighting is especially significant
