Weather was mild with much snow on the ground and snow heavy in the trees.

At the Billings Bridge on the Rideau River in Ottawa, the ducks are gathering
in large numbers on the stretch of the river still unfrozen on both sides of
the bridge. Among the hundreds of Mallards and Black Ducks, a female
Red-breasted Merganser and a female Bufflehead have

I had a group of 4 Greater White-fronted Geese amongst a large flock of
Canada's (~500) sitting on the lake at around 1:30pm. The group appeared to
be comprised of a single adult and 3 young birds. The location was opposite
1351 Lakeshore Road, 100m. west of Reicheld Road.

Today I birded this area following many reports of the Wilson's Warbler at
this location. I failed to find it on my round of the water Treatment
fence line but one my second pass I met Jim Lamey (sp?) and he pointed out
the Blue-headed Vireo in a birch in the area. Grey head with white
I found three long eared owls in the same tree today at Colonel Sam Smith park
in Toronto.
Colonel Sam Smith is at the end of Kipling Avenue.

On a visit to the Ravenshoe Rd / Yonge St. area north of Toronto recently I
encountered a ploughed up snow road block half way down Yonge St.
When talking to some gentlemen (Owl Banders) there
Lake of Two Rivers became completely ice-covered in the hours before
dawn on January 4th, setting a new latest date for that event in records
going back to 1972. Smoke Lake, the last open lake along Highway 60,
became completely frozen on January 5th.
The bumper crop of Balsam Fir cones produced
I just had a female Harlequin sitting on rocks about 200m north of the bird
observatory at Prince Edward Point. Unfortunately, it flew about 300m offshore
to join some LTDU before I could grab a photo.

I'm on a pair of bald eagles perched at the lower end of upper deck island on
the Ottawa River, now.
I am putting out the alert because I am now confident in a pattern for this
pair.
I have reported singles since August on ebird in the same area, as we all see
eagles in the Ottawa area
