OFO Field Trip – Oct. 19/2019 - Dusk along the Ottawa River
10 keen birders met at 1:00pm and birded around Lac Deschenes, between
Britannia and Shirley's Bay.
Although the birding was relatively slow, we had beautiful calm conditions with
clear skies and comfortable temperatures.

8 hardy participants joined Tony Beck for a breezy afternoon along the Ottawa
River in Ottawa’s West End. With strong gusty winds coming from the Northwest,
viewing conditions were challenging at best. Although our species

Yesterday, 12 keen birders participated in a delightful afternoon of fall
birding along the shoresof Lac Deschenes in Nepean. With unseasonably warm
temperatures and relatively calmconditions, we ended with a total of 40

OFO excursion - Dusk Birding along the Ottawa River

With strong north winds accompanied by steady horizontal rain the OFO excursion
was almost cancelled.
Only 2 brave people participated - Ken Ball and Tony Beck
Unwilling to let the weather defeat us, we
22 people met at Andrew Haydon Park for a pleasant afternoon of birding.With
thin overcast, a mild breeze from the southeast and mild late fall
temperatures, we explored the south shore of Lac Deschenes.Viewing conditions
were good, and birds were reasonably cooperative. The water levels

The Little Egret is back at the mouth of Pinecrest Creek with the American
Avocet.
We recommend viewing from Britannia Point at the end of Cassels Road or the
Ottawa River Parkway from the bike path (east of

Good morning,
After being flushed late yesterday evening, the American Avocet returned this
morning to the mouth of Pinecrest Creek.
It's currently feeding ferociously in typical avocet fashion - sweeping motion
from side to side.We didn't observe this feeding style yesterday.
We recommend

We are currently looking at a preening summer plumage American Avocet at the
mouth of Pinecrest Creek.We are observing it from our balcony.However, you
might be able to see the bird from the Britannia Point looking southeast, or
Deschenes Lookout looking southwest.You should also

Hi Ontbirders,
A juvenile Sabine's Gull is being seen right now, since 11:45, from our
balcony.
It is together with a Bonaparte's Gull, flying around fishermen on the Quebec
side of the Deschenes Rapids, Ottawa River.

afternoon at 3pm patrolling the shoreline between Nepean Sailing Club, Andrew
Haydon Park and Britannia Yacht Club.

entrance

Isidore), to turn right or northeast just beyond onto Laurier. Follow Laurier
northeast, then north, 1.8 km to Concession 5 Road (or Route 500). Turn right
or northeast onto it and the road into the Casselman Sewage Lagoons is on your
right almost immediately.
