The female King Eider was still present at dusk (ca. 5 pm) on Wednesday. She
has spent most of her time foraging surprisingly close to shore, say 10-20 m
away. Many photos were taken by numerous people. At dusk she was associating
with two pairs of Mallards, making for a nice comparison to the t
birders!

wreaking havoc on its Arctic breeding
grounds, turning them into mud.
The pond/lake on the south side of Giroux Road was half covered with ice
and had 35 *Common Mergansers*.
Mud Lake, Britannia, had *Pine and Yellow-rumped Warblers, a Hermit Thrush*and
*Fox Sparrows*.

A group of 11 Sandhill Cranes was visible on the west side of Milton Road,
300 m south of Smith Road. Some vocalizing was heard.
The Cobb Creek site also had one Rough-legged Hawk.

One Common Loon was on the Rideau River today, at Strathcona Park, but it
took off and flew north toward the Ottawa River, which would be a good
place to look for it and others.

Cobb Creek, 2.5 km east of Bourget, had dozens of distant Canada Geese and
little else.
At Anderson Rd. and the 417 were 20+ Turkey Vultures, circling above.

The flooded fields around Frank Kenny Rd had several hundred Canada Geese,
but nothing else.
Cobb Creek had a few dozen Canada Geese in the distance, and one
Rough-legged Hawk.
Still no Snow Geese.

(off Lees Ave.) were about 15 Bohemian Waxwings. Another group of
the latter were in the heart of Westboro at 12:30 pm in the east end of the
park at the corner of Richmond and Golden Ave. I have not been able to pick
out any Cedar Waxwings with the Bohemians yet this winter.

While checking the Rideau River from Montreal Rd. to Hwy 417 by snowshoe, I
saw one male Barrow's Goldeneye along with some Commons, at 2:30 pm today.
Park vehicle at Strathcona Park and walk (icy) left (north) about 100 m. No
female BAGO seen.

of Strathcona Park. Park at east end of Templeton St., walk 50 m to the
Rideau River, turn right (south) along the bike path. With Ring-billed
