Hi, I agree with Mark in that it sounds like your sheep were "spooked" by
something. I know my sheep do not like anyone around them except for me,
their shepherd. Just having new people around without you being there will
spook them. I believe that Mark hit is on the head, bribery and normal
If I may, I would like to share an opinion concerning AB vs BB. The
breeders who raise BB have a sheep who is of purebred lines, culled for
their health and have been for years not only here in the states, but also
from where they originated. When we talk about AB and BB really we are

Hi Cecil, I do have some registered stock, but most is unregistered. It
really does not make a difference in my buyers whether the sheep are
registered or not. I keep some reg. stock for 4-H kids and if someone does
want registered stock specifically. Same price no matter what they are!

Hi Peg, I did try that, presented nearly word for word what you said. The
booth has to be paid for in advance with fair board approvel.but for
the last 3 years there has been no exta places to set up for livestock and
the barns are full of show animals. I could bring in my sheep to sho
per acre than a
full-sized cow, and I am thinking that would be a
great way to "sell" the smaller hair sheep to the
"bigger is better" mentality. Sheep are a bit smaller
boned, proportionately, and they reproduce a lot
faster!!!

I agree that is a great idea Terry! Speaking from my own experience about
puting up an exibit like that at a 4-H Fair, I ran into a bunch of "well,
we'll have to ask the fair board, or there is no monies for extra exibits,
etc." There was so much of that I just quit trying. Not that you all
Morning Rick, I found the same here for the 4-H. The kids can only show in
Showmanship and Breed Classes with Blackbellys or any other breed of sheep.
I have seen breeds other then "market" breeds go into the Breed Classes and
the judges have no idea what the breed the kids are showing were.
I sure am sorry about your ewes problems. Not that I suggest this is her
problem, but might it be possible she has gas/colic? I give my sheep free
choice soda. They seem to know when they have stomach problems. Just a
thought. Susan

Hi Elaine, I probably am one of the few people who actually enjoy the
experience of raising bottle babies. I don't go snatch one just so I can do
it, but it is for me a truely great experience. I have bottle fed ram lambs
and when old enough turned them out with the other ram lambs and just i

Mary, I whole heartedly agree with you about the attributes of a good Border

Hi Stephanie, I use Basic H on a regular every two month schedule. (6 times

Sheep and llama are together, all equine are seperated from sheep yet
surround them so as to keep predators out. Horse chemical wormers should be
rotated, but I have not had to do that lately.
