I put it in the ServerLayout section, "DontZoom 'off'". The man page
explicitly says you can put any of the ServerFlags options there.

Indeed I do. (I believe I said.) ATM I'm using 800x600, albeit on a
15" monitor--native is 1024x768.

In X I've always used the capability to switch screen resolution modes
on-the-fly with CTL-ALT-KP(+/-). With my latest build, trying FBs and
the Nouveau driver for the first time, I've lost that. I haven't
discovered if I can configure KMS & the Nouveau driver to get it back,
but I do get it with
