David, That's exactly what I needed, it's sorted now. For anyone else that's interested, there's a checkbox on that screen which you uncheck if you don't want to have to log in. Then you have to choose the user you want to automatically log in as and it's done. Thanks again Alex -Original Mess

This afternoon I decided to uninstall AVG 8, and install the version of AVG 7.5 that Patricia gave the link for. The uninstall of 8 went fine, and the install of 7.5 seemed to go ok.
