Do you have, by any chance, MacAfee Internet security installed? This product is fairly notorious for fouling up attempts at home networking. I have had similar problems to the ones you describe and all these problems disappear as soon as you remove MacAfee. Products like Eset Smart Security are

I once networked a desktop running AVG and a Netbook running Avast. I did this running the Network setup wizard first on the Desktop XP machine. I then created a network setup wizard onto a USB pen to run on the Netbook. I did this and the wizard reported success but initially both machines

Although that will work. We are really making this far more complicated then it really should be. It really doesn't matter if the computers are connected to the router wired or wirelessly. It only matters that they are on the same subnet and can communicate with eachother. Assuming both computers

Adding to what Frank has indicated, when you name your network, using the wizard, make sure that the network name is properly entered on each machine using the same upper and lower case letters. Any difference will cause the connection to fail. HTH, Rick Justice - Original Message -

Well, just my opinion, but I would personally wait just a few more days now till Windows 7.0 is preinstalled on computers including notebooks and even netbooks. I'm sure the notebooks you outlined will work with the above operating system due to its low hardware requirements.
