What do you know about a product called a filter mag? and what is your oppinion? For those that don't know, a filter mag is simply a high powered magnet that you put on the end of your oil filter and it is supposed to trap metal particls that circulate in your oil. Personally I can not see how t

Dear Max and list members: VW and some others use magnets to capture metal in engine oil as well as in transmission fluid. Some of these applications use a magnet in the oil plug itself. That makes cleaning the magnet a breeze. Placing a magnet on the end of a filter is a more hit or mi

Clifford At least in theory all of the oil is supposed to go through the filter so how would this be a hit or miss proposition? When you change the oil filter all the particles are supposed to stay in the filter and you just remove the magnet from the old filter dispose of the filter and apply

Ed, I wouldn't say that it is fully accessible. It is progress but this machine isn't all it could be. Not all of the functions of the selecter dial talk and the clicks are a little mushy. Plus, it is tedious to count clicks. It is doable, and somewhat manageable but I wouldn't say, fully a

I just purchased one of these, I have to say, it is a hell of a lot more accessible than a flat panel push button display that doesn't talk at all! I have already done things with it that I couldn't do on my old one. Progress, yes, could they do more? Yes, but it is a very nice unit for the cost,

Max, for the most part you are right however for many years the German car manufacturers used to include what they called an Alniko magnet in both the engine and transmission sumps and they seemed to work fairly well. This was especially true before the days of the submycron filtration systems.
