I would suggest turning on wep or one of the other encrypted protocols. If you don't, someone can easily snoop your trafic. This will allow them to inpersonate one of your computers and get on your network even if you have only a specific set of MAC addresses allowed. WEP is not totally secure

At least for me, my water meter is in the basement and there is a shut-off there, but then there is another shut-off between there and the main. That is the one buried in the lawn. I assume that in some warmer places the meters may be above ground level. And in places that don't have basements,
