Dan, I think your right. I'll just not mention anything to my wife.

Scott,
I doubt that your wife talking with mine would make your wife see the
light. In fact, I think if they talked enough, they might actually come
up with plans to do us in. I worried that Teresa was going to take a
shovel to the back of my head while I was digging the pit for the basement
Dan, you really shouldnt' say things like that. If it were up to me,
I'd tear the whole damn basement down to the bare walls and start
over. Actually I'd take this split-level and flatten it down to a
rancher or build on top of the living room to make a second floor.
This would of course me
Oh come on Scott. You know what you have to do. You must rip down the
wall and the door, rehab the entire bathroom, re-plumb and rewire it, just
the way you want it.

Ah you take all the fun out of the project. grin Actually, I stuffed a
coat hanger in there and discovered by a little further checking that
it is the return duct. So, won't be an issue if I can fit the box in
there and I just might have enough room. It'll be pretty close to the
doorframe,
Please realize that if there is a steel post buried in that wall it is most
likely a support for the house. Is this wall located about center in the
basement? If so, you can bet that steel post is very much a load bearing one
and you need to be careful not to compromise it in any way.

I'm betting that the original plan was to hang the door so it opened/swung
from the opposing frame and for some "who knows why" reason and after the
wiring had been completed they realized they had to hang the door as it is
now. Otherwise, would it be possible to switch the door instead of moving
door.
that seems to be pretty comfortable.

Scott
I'd maybe get a small magnet and feel about before hacking into the wall,
Hope there are no unexpected pipes running where they shouldn't be
Since it's so obviously weird now, who cares what you do if it's safe and
works.

Folks, I'm actually moving a switch from behind the door of the
bathroom to just inside the door where it really should be. How anyone
could have done such a silly thing is beyond me. Ok, so forget all the
reasons, but I know why they installed it behind the door and it
really comes down to
