Hello,
a really good point. The order is an important point.
To solve all those combinations I see some ways,
but I cannot say, which is the best.
1) network stuff only done in preset menu (never
done by GRUB itself):
- setup for serial is possible before

Hello !
I have tried out the current CVS version on my embedded
machine. It is a PC/104 computer (AMD 5x86, 133MH, 36MB
RAM, Crystal CS8900 ethernet chip). The machine is head-
less (no VGA or keyboard) and the ttyS0 (COM1) is used
as serial console.
I used the preset menu for setting up the

Hello again !
Ok, if you want to stay on the old manner, then have a look
again to my patch. We use this version here in the company
and I use it private and it works very well.
The preset menu is executed first, then the netboot stuff
is activated and then the normal menu file is sourced.

If the normal menu file is present, all menu relevant
stuff is overwritten, so we have your initial behaviour,

I have not seen the current implementation of you,
as I did not make a CVS CHECKOUT for a month or so.
The reason why I did the patch was: The preset menu
must be executed before the the network setup is
done. It is really important for me (and for many embedded
users), that the preset menu is
at least it is used for test purpose and it is only one added
entry in the makefile.

Sorry, I did a msitake and mixed up my two patches.
This patch should simple build the stage2-diskless
file also, to boot locally the diskless version of
GRUB. Espacially for testing this is very useful.

Hello Mr. Okuji,
I sent the patch only to bug-grub not to you.
Read below mre details.
In simple words: The preset menu is executed first in any way,
and is replaced (concerning menu entries) and overridden
concerning settings) when a main config file (local or via net)
is present. The
With a little patch in `stage2/Makefile.am' a diskless version of
a stage2 is also built together with nbgrub and pxegrub, to load
the diskless version of GRUB locally from disk.

with etherboot/netboot, a boot floppy of the diskless
