This is true if you are talking VHF/UHF. When talking HF, PL259 is the
preferred connector.
BTW, all connections placed outdoor should be sealed against moisture. I know
of no connector that is water resistant enough to prevent eventual moisture
intrusion, a definite performance killer.
Victor is my student. He passed the exam after two days of training at NASA in
