Prelude: This post is tangential to the gypsy discussion and likely
controversial. If you are not interested, delete now. Moderators, if you

any future posts on the matter.

This is part of the folk process and the best way to get dances in
circulation. If people only called their own dances or had to pay royalties
to call other people's dances, a lot of d

For those interested, Cary Ravitz has a dance with the same key figure
except that the men are in the middle instead of the women called Four on
the Floor (1999). I am copying it here, in case people are interested in
some variety.

One of the problems with same-gender swings in the ballroom position is the
awkward moment of who does what role. Especially when this is being done
with someone who was not selected as a partner, this can be awkward and make
people uncomfortable, irregardless of homophobia or not. Anyone who kno

In my experience these dances increase the stress level, I would recommend
against calling them.

Ramsey Chase would be an awesome dance if it didn't end with the neighbor
swing. You spend the entire dance flirting with your partner then at the
end you swing your neighbor :/. I would like to shift the dance to start
with the neighbor swing.

Cary Ravitz and I have a dance called Janet's Gypsy that is quite flirting
and a bit different. The half mad robins are not difficult, you just trade
places with your neighbor.

Cary Ravitz has his dances indexed (which is fortunate since he has a lot of
them) at http://www.ravitz.us/dance/#x. I would look at the dances he lists
as easy, no walk through, and last dance of the evening as good starting
points.

I was wondering if there would be some way that a website could be set up
where new dances could be posted that people could go to. That could keep
the traffic on the list down. The problem that I see with that is that
people wouldn't be able to discuss the dances as easily, or if they did the

Last weekend Susan Moffett called this dance at the Lexington dance. I
loved the first part. Cary Ravitz and I worked on another alternate version
of it that he has up on his page now:

I have just recently joined this list and I am very new to calling. I took
a caller's workshop at Contradancer's Delight Holiday and have called one
half night and one full night at my local dance. But, I would like to point
out that Cary Ravitz has a tremendous resource on his webpage
