Last night i wanted to do a square dance with a Grand Square for a
chorus. In planning for the evening, i thought it might be good to
introduce the idea in a contra. The following is the result:

Hi.
There is an old dance called "Joy," which comes to mind from the name of
the last post author. It has been in my files for decades, i do not know
the devisor, and was used in the Delaware Valley RSCDS for a time 30 years
ago:

I have found that "United We Dance" by Bob Isaacs works well as a waltz.
Doing Rory o More setting in waltz time is very satisfying (to me).
Instead of a swing, folks can either do a two hand turn or just waltz to
the end of the phrase.
*United We Dance*
I'd like to lurk, and eventually et up a web page.

A while ago, i was intending to call a 4x4 (The Warm Up) at our
local dance, the Chicago Barn Dance, but thought it might be nice to
use a dance that accomplished the same thing (swinging both opposites
during the sequence) but not using the star or a hey. Another idea to
incorporate was the
On a similar note,
I remember cub scouts used to practice marching, you know, the the
left march, about face, etc i think that was my first calling
experience, about age 10.

Nice phrasing Michael.
When i tell the dancers that it is a clap trap, they often feel it is
a challenge to get the claps in.

Last summer i was thinking how nice it is to use a roll away to

called "Sugar on the Floor." It is not in my repetoire by that name, so i
turn to your collective wisdeom.
Thanks,

Dance while you can.
Hi,
I called a wedding a few years ago with an English Country dance theme
that might help, since there is less swinging which might be tough both on
the grass and with newbees.
Sellingers Round worked really well, and could be applied to the contra
approach, just figures and chorus and keep
Hi Folks,
Coming out of LURK mode.
Many years ago, while calling a dance in Milwaukee, i noticed that
my selection of dances all had "down the middle 4 in line." Ouch.
To help me avoid this obvious programming faux pas, i started a
computer data base of my dance cards. I code each dance
