Sneebo, Right on both counts. You think this is a Biogon type design? I have quite a bit of Modern aero lens brochures and stuff that someone formerly from Recon Optical gave me, But nothing that shows what these things look like inside. One really wierd/cool thing is that if you look through

Gene- The lens you have I believe probably is f4.5 and not mounted in a shutter? The Biogon has a lot less extra packaging. I've had a chance to play with both lenses on an optical bench. They measure exactly the same front to back and the glass on both front and rear elements had the same dimens

Hi Leonard, The measurements you have are correct. The reason the front element looks so large is that there is a fair amount of metal around the glass. On the back the diameter you see is almost exactly the dia of the GLASS. No way I could use the lenseboard or the bellows. basically had to

Sneebo, This lens was made by Pacific Optical, but does not resemble any Biogon I've ever seen. It is REALLY big. About four an a half inches of glass diameter up front and 4 or so in the back. Weighs at least five pounds. It is really a challenge trying to marry it to the graflex body. Gen

Hi George, I saw a photo taken with a lens like this and it's not as bad as it sounds, but we'll see when i actually take some pictures. I have been hoping the fall off would improve with it stopped down to f8 or so. Is that a reasonable assumption? I've heard differing opinions on that. Gene

John, A super wide 6x6 would be awesome. I've seen one that was made with a peephole from a door divided into two parts and glued into a shutter in place of the old elements! pretty extreme, but the images were better than you'd think. Wide angle lenses for med. format seem to be real hard to

Hi Gene, I found the 3" Pacific Optical lens in a recent Surplus Shed catalog. They give the front element diameter as 4 3/8" and the rear element diameter as 4 1/8". However, the lens shown in the picture appears to have a much smaller rear element than front element. What does your lens

I just received my first digest from the list after subscribing a few weeks ago. I am presently making a stereo wet plate camera and plate holder. The glass plate ends up to be 3.5 X 7 inches. I am making the camera out of plain old pine or fir from home depot and the plate holder out of Masonite

I believe Pacific Optical made some lenses very similar to the Zeiss Biogon 75mm f4.5 for their aerial cameras. __ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Photos - Share your holiday photos online! http://photos.yahoo.com/ ___
