Hi all,
I took lunch out on top of Mundy. Then walked around from Mundy to Comstock
Knoll and back to BTI. It was a wonderful day.
While having lunch watched silently feeding COMMON YELLOWTHROATS and YELLOW
WARBLERS. And several Cedar Waxwings which were feeding on Buckthorn and rose
berries. A
I ran into Pete Wiedmann at Sapsucker Woods this morning and we birded together
for a while. Thanks to Pete's sharp eyes we saw a BARRED OWL, which may have
been same one reported recently by Diane & Ken (May 1), as well as by Mark Chao
(early this morning), and was, I think, in about the same
This morning, Rick Lightbody and I walked Sapsucker woods. Around the pond,
highlights included: BLACKBURNIAN WARBLERS, AM. REDSTART, WOOD THRUSH,
BLUE-HEADED VIREO, and BARRED OWL; mostly viewed in the birch tree part of the
trail.
We continued across the road to the boardwalk and saw a N. WATE
I worked for most of the day at 821 Cliff Street. Around 11:00 I went to
the trash bin out back. Coming back, i heard a bird singing. At first, I
thought, American Robin. Well, it had to be one with a very bad raspy call.
I listened for quite awhile. Scarlet Tanager!!
Good birding, Ann

I dropped into the Hawthorn Orchard a little before noon to find an abundance
of bare sticks, but a paucity of foliage and birds. A westerly pass along the
northern edge yielded a small flock of White-throated sparrows and a Baltimore

I started out for a walk around Beebe Lake, but made it no farther than the

Last night at my house on Shindagin Hollow Rd I had my first BALTIMORE

and sat quietly under a tree for about a half hour while a male RUFFED
GROUSE strutted around me, a BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER explored the

I did get to the Hawthorn Orchard this morning. This is my first visit this
year so I do not have anything to compare it with. But it did seem like there
were a few birds moving through. I had Magnolia, Chestnut-sided, and
Black-and-White Warblers at the NE corner along with 2 Ovenbirds, several
Hi all,
New (for me) at Goetchius Preserve this morning (8:00 – 9:30) were:
Bobolink – 4 males, and I believe I also had a flyover female
Eastern Kingbird – 3, doing lots of chattering and chasing each other around
for many minutes in what was likely a territorial dispute.

At about 9;15 this a.m., from my chair at the breakfast table, two male
Rose-breasted Grosbeaks at the nearly empty feeder. Of course, this means
another trip to buy more seed, another consequence of a long-lasting winter.
The gold finches will be happy. At the same time, at least one White-crowne
I have never seen catbirds at my suet feeder and a catbird nests each year
in my yard. I just wrote in a message about B. Orioles & RB Grosbeaks at my
suet. I have never had them at my suet before.

Yesterday (Wed.) late afternoon I saw 3 male Rose-breasted Grosbeaks at my
hanging suet cake hanging near my window. They took turns standing on the
cage, leaning over and eating. They had a fine time between the suet and
the big sunflower feeder. When they were away from the suet, the male

Just had two (possibly three) chestnut-sided warblers working the catkins
outside my window (I'm embarrassed to still not know what trees they are, and
will have to find out when/if they leaf out). If the narrative is to be
believed, this means I've seen more chestnut-sided warblers from the com

The bubbling song of a LINCOLN'S SPARROW singing right outside my bedroom
window woke me up this morning. A quick look around the yard didn't produce
too many other new arrivals in the drizzle, but I suspect there is plenty
to be found today. Keep us posted!
