Karol,
You are using software that is working well for others. This seems like
a hardware problem. Check the cable and the terminations.

The media that you use may have a speed restriction that the writer will
honor. Try media that is marked as supporting the speed that you are
trying for.

If you ever copy a Solaris boot disk with dd and cdrecord you will find
yourself with an unbootable reproduction. This is a known problem and is
addressed by Jorg in the README.copy file. The readcd program will
create an image file from the boot disk that can be used as input to
cdrecord.
