Doesn't the Norton Ghost manual have specific instructions on how to
do this? Granted, when I tried it with Ghost 9 it hosed* my target
drive. But I'm told by other people that it works...

First, I would make sure your data is backed up.
You should be able to use Norton Ghost to replicate the hard drive. I have
used it many times with 2000 with any problems. The biggest hard drive I
used for Ghost was 80GB I think. Not sure of Ghost has a limit or not.
