+1
You can also use the firewall to stop a lot of DoS attacks. Bandwidth
shaping or some such.
If you're using *nix on your FW, you can run Pf-- there are some good
tutorials out on the web about setting it up.
I've been having fun with it. ;-]

download wireshark and run it. It will tell you quite a bit about what
is going on. Make sure you can identify all the traffic. If there are
a lot of collisions and lost packets you have networking problems. I
will help if you like. If there are repeated bogus request from

You really worry too much. Not good for your health.
You'll get it sorted. You always do. :)

seconds or milliseconds of each other, there will be many if it's a DOS.

Check your web server performance. If the server is bogging down, you need
something like SeeFusion to check out what is going on. Did you change any
code recently, or add a large content item like a video to the site?
If your server is ok, you need to check network performance with something

There's a myriad of possible reasons behind a slow network.
Is the network segmented, and are the webservers on their own segment?
If I'm not mistaken the webservers should be on their own segment (or if
the company can afford it, their own IP block and pipe)
