ummm... it is, in effect, a shower of pellets. large pellets, but
unguided pellets, nonetheless.

I know there's a joke in there somewhere.

But it isn't. You're description could be a guy with a BB gun.

The US Army asked Israel for all the technology involved so they can
build their own. So like you said, instead of using it now, they will
have a non-Jewish version in 5 years.

Guy...Phalanx anti-missile sys
Actually "works like a futuristic force field" is a much better
description. Your description sounds like a guy sitting on the hood
with a machine gun.
Wasn't Reagan's SDI called Star Wars because of it's force field like
similarity? Isn't this the same concept minus the laser beams?
On 5/9/06,
Isn't futureWeapons on the history channel?
I missed it, though.

It was dumped for a similar system that will be developed by an American
vendor in the next 5 years. i.e. they dumped a perfectly good working system
that can save lives now for one that does not exist yet. One perfectly good
reason for this is that America does not want to use ANYTHING from Isr

Yup, and it was suggested that a metal storm system could be used in the manner
described to provide RPB and rocket defense.

I missed that episode and waiting on a rerun ;) My DVR came in on
Friday... couple days too late. I've read about it though, pretty
awesome.
As far as the force field thing.. maybe they're referring to the
radar? Only when the object comes within a certain range is it
blasted?
Anyways, it looks pre

Haven't seen the show but the principle has been in use (at least
theoretically) for some time:
throw enough lead downrange and you're bound to hit so
anybody seen "FutureWeapons" on Discovery Channel (i think)

hrmmm... when more accurately he could have reported...
oh... I dunno...
sends a shower of pellets downrange to disable the explosive
warhead of an incoming anti-tank rocket...
which is what it actually is...and can be seen on the video provi

I think with the "force field" the only thing "guided" about it is the
direction the gun tube is pointing when it is fired.
the pellets are _not_ guided munitions.

They put up a wall of bullets infront the incoming missile after it is
detected yes.

Destroyers at sea use multiple radars to target an incoming ordinance and
deploy guided counter measures to destroy it? I don't think so.
This report actually mentioned specifically that this particular technology
could NOT be used on a ship at sea. Though I don't really know why it
couldn't...
> How fox news could describe this as a 'Force Field' I dunno.
sounds better than "low tech shotgun blast protects tanks from RPGs"
reactive armor provides/provided much of the same type of protection,
slightly different concept, but probably the same hit rate...
the Phalanx cannon you mentioned
Umm..its the same thing that they have with destroyers on the sea.
They shoot bullets at incoming missiles hoping to blow them up before
they reach the ship.
How fox news could describe this as a 'Force Field' I dunno.
