Yeah well...there's a difference between espousing crappy ideas, and being a
crappy writer.
Curious if people can separate the two. I had a flaming liberal girlfriend
back in college...and she LOVED Atlas Shrugged. So i dunno.

I tried reading Rand about 4 times, I could not get past page 10
She can certainly be pretty dry, and she really likes to hammer and hammer
away at the same points over and over again in her fiction. That being
said if someone is actually interested in the philosophy, her non-fiction
is really the place to go.

Asimov and Heinlein were big influences for me. I never cared for Rand even
when I was young.

Yeah, Asimov and Heinlein had a lot to do with my life and my philosophy
for living it.
And Rand of course, but you guys mostly don't care for her, and I'll admit
with time and age and experience I've certainly come to see some of the
draw backs of objectavism, but still follow it's main tenets a
The Dorsai novels also had a lot of good talk about open vs closed
workforce/societies

I've always wondered whether Asimov when he started the Robots series
and the Foundation novels ever intended to merge the two as he later
did. For that matter the prequel trilogy written by David Brin and
Gregory Benford sort of thoroughly changed the entire meaning of the
first trilogy.
On Tue,
Foundation and Robots are some of my favorite books of all time. I need to
get over to amazon and get some of the old pulp.

I thought this was a pretty good review of the Foundation Trilogy. It
reminds me that I really ought to go reread those. Just the first three, of
course. The later additions..eh, not so much.
