I'm really adverse to putting too much into a stereo for this car so
I'd rather not do much more beyond replacing the speakers. I got to
wondering if I would do better to find some higher efficiency speakers
like the db6501's from polk at 92db or maybe these kenwoods at 91db.

It's a good start, but I don't think the stock tuner has enough "mmph"
to make these speakers fly... May need to put in for an amplifier under the
driver seat or sumpthin fer the thumpin... Not too much would be needed (400
watts into 4 channels should work fine). I would also suggest getting

I used to a HUGE car audio guy in the 90s (competed). My killer
system had BA ProSeries and was awesome. I love BA stuff.
That being said, that was 10+ years ago.
That should sound great, BA makes some nice stuff.
Check your peak out put from your head unit against the peak of the
speakers, make sure you don't turn them all the way up :)
