Is anyone using solar technology to power their home, in lieu of
shelling out to a big electricity conglomerate?

We're not, though I considered getting an evaluation. Our city has a
grant that provides free evals to anyone. They do a google earth
analysis of your home site first, and if it looks like you'd get
enough sun, they come out and discuss what you could do and help you
find all the grants and

My next door neighbor is going to do it. He doesn't have it set up yet, but
he has the plans worked out.
One of the things he is going to do that apparently isn't standard these
days is install a bank of batteries to store the electricity collected
during the day so he can power everything with
Now THAT is cool. They've got some great technology these days for boats
now. To help cut down on generator usage. Looking forward to what the next
couple of years bring out.

Yeah but I'm planning to be in the house for the next 20 yrs it's a good
investment.. but according to HGTV it's a good investment because buyers are
starting to look for this type of thing if you decide to sell.
