Several years ago, I heard a NPR piece on Brazil and its use of "Flex"
cars. These cars can use gasoline or alcohol or any mixture of the two.

Pretty much the same story here.
1993 Toyota Corolla DX, 250,200 miles, 32-33 mpg average since we
bought it in 1995.

Not true at this time of the year. Yesterday was in the low 80's, but in
the IE it was nearly 90. I did finally take the cover off the swamp
cooler yesterday, prepped it for use and fired it up for the first time
this year. Man that was nice.

I just found an article about it, and basically it's because with all
the safety stuff and "comfort" add-ons, cars weigh more so they need
bigger engines. But, seriously, how much can air bags weigh? I'd take
crappy cloth seats + air bags & high MPG over surround sound, sync,

cheaper than a car payment.
