Agreed. We built one in college out of $200 worth of PVC and grill parts
from Home Depot. We had a single shooter, a 3 cannon tripod gun, and a
morter style launcher. Add a couple bag
I meant how does a potato(e) gun differ from the late 70's tennis-ball
cannon. It looks like power is the main thing (although we shot the
tennis balls well over 500 ft.)
The ragged bottoms/tops of the can seams would eventually rip the
tennis balls apart, so balloons would not be ano option.

Well two problems I see for shooting latex water balloons with your set up.
Imperfections in you barrel will likely damage the balloon as well the heat of
the explosive force provide by you lighter fluid propellant.
