However no matter the reason (for having the 3meg file) it opens fine in 4.5.x so me
thinks it is a bug.
CF studio is my text editor of choice... so when I want to open a text file I use it.

Do you have a remote CF installation? Do you have Access/SQL Server on your
machine. Is it Win2K?
All of the above install MDAC, in fact as far as I am aware MDAC is needed
for MS Office. !!
